Towards Zero-Emission Maritime Transport
FLEETfor55 is an ambitious initiative under the Horizon Europe call [HORIZON-CL5-2024-D5-01-12], designed to integrate state-of-the-art emission reduction and efficiency improvement technologies into ship design and retrofitting.
Coordinated by Hydrus Engineering S.A., this project aligns with the EU’s “Fit for 55” package and the Zero-Emission Waterborne Transport (ZEWT) Partnership, aiming to make maritime transport more sustainable by 2030.
Objectives & Vision
FLEETfor55 is committed to transforming maritime transport by addressing its 13.5% share of EU transport emissions. Our vision is to become a lighthouse project for sustainable waterborne transport, achieving the following objectives:
Design Development
Create 7 retrofit and 4 new vessel design use cases using a "design-for-operation" approach, incorporating several EET categories: Power Conversion/Electrification, Sustainable Fuels, Renewables, Propeller Designs, Hydrodynamics, Operations, and Optimized Engineering.
Roadmap Creation
Develop a holistic roadmap for optimized EET utilization to meet βFit for 55β goals by 2030.
Digital Tools
Build a Decision Support System (DSS) and Design Assesment & Operations Tool (DAT) for fast assessment and benchmarking via a digital platform.
Demonstration
Showcase accelerated conversion of vessels for better energy efficiency and reduced emissions.
Business Models
Establish robust business cases and international collaboration for commercial deployment by 2030.
Compliance
Assess designs against EU βFit for 55β and IMO GHG targets (e.g., CII, EEXI, EEDI).
Networking
Form a Technology Innovation Network (TIN) to connect EET providers with end-users.
