Rome, Italy – January 28-29 2026Â
The FLEETfor55 consortium convened in the Italian capital last week for its Second General Assembly, marking a significant milestone one year after launching its ambitious mission to transform maritime transport and accelerate decarbonisation across Europe.
Hosted in the historic surroundings of the Eternal City, the two-day gathering brought together project partners from across Europe to review achievements, share technical developments, and chart the course forward for cleaner, more energy-efficient maritime operations.
The productive sessions focused on several critical areas:
- Progress Review: The consortium conducted a comprehensive assessment of accomplishments and ongoing initiatives across all Work Packages (WPs), demonstrating substantial advancement since the project’s first General Assembly in Trondheim, Norway, in June 2025.
- Technical Presentations: Partner teams shared their latest findings and developments, fostering knowledge exchange and collaborative problem-solving among the diverse group of maritime and energy experts.
- Strategic Alignment: Participants worked to synchronise their efforts on next steps, ensuring the project remains on track to deliver on its decarbonization roadmap and contribute to the European Union’s Fit for 55 objectives.
- Renewed Commitment: The assembly reinforced the consortium’s collective determination to achieve the ambitious climate targets set forth in the Fit for 55 framework, which aims to reduce EU greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030.
Adding to the week’s significance, project coordinator Astrinos Papadakis represented FLEETfor55 at the AENEAS Project‘s ‘ 3rd Stakeholder Workshop’ on January 29th. This parallel engagement provided a valuable platform to showcase the project’s progress alongside other pioneering developments in energy storage systems and sustainable maritime solutions within the EUWT-SE cluster.
Further updates on the project’s milestones and achievements will be shared as FLEETfor55 moves forward!
