On 17 April 2026, the FLEETfor55 project took part in the final event of the ZHENIT Project, an EU-funded initiative dedicated to advancing sustainable maritime technologies. The event brought together leading stakeholders and innovative projects working at the forefront of maritime decarbonisation.

Representing FLEETfor55, Spyros Pappas from HYDRUS Engineering presented the project’s latest achievements, highlighting its design-for-operation approach and the development of ten market-ready Use Cases. These solutions are designed to support the maritime sector in meeting the ambitious targets set by the EU Fit for 55 package, as well as the International Maritime Organization’s greenhouse gas reduction goals.

The event provided a valuable platform for exchange and collaboration, gathering several EU-funded projects that are collectively shaping the future of green shipping.

Among them were RESHIP, LH2CRAFT, SAFeCRAFT, ENGIMMONIA, and MARPOWER. Each project contributes unique innovations spanning alternative fuels such as liquid hydrogen and ammonia, advanced retrofitting solutions, energy recovery systems, and next-generation propulsion technologies.

Together, these initiatives demonstrate the breadth and depth of European efforts to accelerate the transition towards a cleaner, more efficient maritime sector. The discussions throughout the day reinforced the importance of cross-project collaboration in addressing complex decarbonisation challenges and scaling up impactful solutions.

FLEETfor55 is proud to be part of this dynamic ecosystem and to contribute to a shared vision of a sustainable European fleet.

The consortium extends its thanks to the ZHENIT Project for the invitation and to our project partner RINA for successfully bringing together key actors from across the maritime innovation landscape for this important milestone event in the beautiful frame of Augusta.
