Task 3.2 Technical Workshop Successfully Completed
The project team has successfully concluded a focused Task 3.2 technical workshop in close collaboration with partners from RINA, NTUA, HYDRUS, DST, and DNV. The objective of the workshop was to rigorously assess the technical feasibility of Energy Efficiency Technologies (EETs) for both retrofit applications and newbuild vessels.
During the workshop, the consortium conducted an in-depth analysis of operational profiles and vessel drawings, examined engineering constraints across different vessel types, and evaluated voyage patterns, operating speeds, vessel sizes, layouts, and onboard space availability. This comprehensive review ensured that all assessments were grounded in realistic operational and design conditions.
A broad range of technologies was systematically considered, including hydrodynamic improvements, propulsion optimisation measures, electrification solutions, renewable energy options such as Wind-Assisted Propulsion Systems (WAPS), low-emission and alternative fuels, and additional efficiency-enhancing concepts.
The workshop delivered clear and actionable outcomes. Technically feasible technologies were identified for each vessel class, while solutions deemed non-beneficial or incompatible were excluded at an early stage. These results establish a robust and well-defined foundation for detailed technical assessments and early-stage design activities to be undertaken in the next phase of the project.
This milestone represents a significant step forward in ensuring that subsequent development phases are both technically sound and aligned with real-world maritime operational requirements.
